Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony
In 1936, storm clouds gathered. Vaughan Williams had seen war’s destruction, and pled for peace in his Dona Nobis Pacem, a showcase for the SLSO Chorus. In Russia, Prokofiev felt called to write a work that looked to the future with hope. Resident Conductor Gemma New returns to the podium.
